Cropping Overview:
The dimensions (height x width) of your digital image are not always the same as the print you want to make from it. Therefore, some cropping (trimming) of your original image is often required to make it fit the paper size.
We offer a variety of print sizes and each size may require a slightly different amount of cropping. Also, digital cameras can take images with different dimensions than film cameras, so some cropping is necessary to make them all fit on standard paper sizes.
While the cropping we do is minimal, it may cut off important parts of the image located near the edge. This is why we offer two options, which are given near the end of the ordering process.
We provide Either "CROP" (cut) the images to the paper size OR "FIT" the images ( un-cut , full size ) on to a given paper size is show during the order process. This is to ensurde that what-you-see-is-what-you-get .... options to make sure your prints include all the important parts of your original image:
As you will see fit crop actually shrinks the image a bit and leaves a white border.
Note: The print dimentions are always the size of the paper the image is printed on and not the image size itself. Cropping applies to both horizontal (landscape) and vertical (portrait) photos.
*4 x D Unlike traditional 35mm film, which captures images in a 2x3 aspect ratio, most digital cameras capture images in a 3x4 aspect ratio. In order to fit a 3x4 aspect ratio digital image into a standard 4x6 print (based on film's 2x3 aspect ratio), 11% of the digital image is cropped . Our new 4XD format is tailored for digital images. The new format is based on 4 in. x 5.33 in. print paper and provides a full dimension digital print, the way you captured it. |
